Volaris launches new nonstop Detroit - Guadalajara flight strengthening Midwest connectivity to Mexico
DETROIT (Jan. 29, 2026)- Volaris announced today the launch of a new nonstop flight between Detroit and Guadalajara, expanding affordable international travel options for passengers across Detroit and the Midwest and strengthening air connectivity between the United States and Mexico.
The route will operate three times per week starting June 1st, providing travelers with a convenient new option to visit family and friends, explore Mexico’s cultural heartland, or plan ahead for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Detroit serves as a key gateway for Midwest travelers, and the new service offers easy access to Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s most vibrant destinations. Known as the birthplace of mariachi and tequila, Guadalajara offers visitors a rich blend of history, cuisine and tradition, with attractions including its Historic Center, the Tequila Express, and proximity to the UNESCO-listed Agave Landscape.
For travelers heading north, Detroit continues to stand out as a city on the rise, with a revitalized downtown, iconic music heritage, renowned museums such as the Detroit Institute of Arts, and a deep-rooted passion for professional sports that resonates strongly with fans across the Midwest.
“As we continue expanding our U.S. network, Detroit plays an important role in connecting Midwest communities to Mexico,” said Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice president of Volaris. “This new nonstop flight to Guadalajara gives travelers from the region more opportunities to fly safely, comfortably and at affordable fares—whether they’re visiting loved ones, exploring a new destination or traveling around the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
“This announcement represents both a new airline partnership and a new international connection for our airport,” said Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Chad Newton. “Volaris Airlines’ new service at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport gives customers a convenient nonstop option to Guadalajara, making it easier to reach one of Mexico’s most important cultural and business centers.”
With excitement building toward the World Cup, hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, the Detroit – Guadalajara route is expected to support increased cross-border travel for sports fans, families and leisure travelers throughout the Midwest.
Volaris invites travelers from Detroit and surrounding Midwest markets to experience this new route and enjoy a flying experience focused on safety, value and convenience.
