DETROIT (March 10, 2022) – On March 3, 2022, the Wayne County Airport Authority Police Department arrested three people at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) who were believed to be involved in the trafficking of narcotics. The suspects were traveling from California to Tennessee and connecting in Detroit.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined the suspects’ bags contained approximately 65 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly three pounds of cocaine. The street value is estimated at approximately $1 million.

“The men and women of our Airport Authority Police Department work hard each day to not only keep Detroit Metropolitan Airport safe, but also our country,” said Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Chad Newton. “Acting on a tip, our officers responded quickly to prevent drugs from making it onto the streets. I’m proud of our team.”

Police submitted an In-Custody Warrant Recommendation to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. The suspects were arraigned on March 6 and are currently in the Wayne County Jail.
