News Releases
Apr 18 2019

WHAT:  Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) invites contractors to attend the Centralized Deicing Facility (CDF) and Runway 21R By Pass Taxiway Construction Project Outreach Event. Contractors, including Small Business Enterprises (SBEs), will receive information on the scope of this non-federally funded project, the schedule, the bid solicitation process, SBE certification and goals, as well as participate in vendor networking sessions.

In addition to installing 75,000 cu. yd. of Portland Cement concrete pavement, companies are needed to construct the new deicing control tower building, security fencing, storm and underdrain systems, glycol lift station, and to provide airfield electrical, asphalt paving, high-mast lighting, and other services.

The new deicing facility will be centrally located on the airfield within the footprint of the former L.C. Smith Terminal, which is currently being demolished. The CDF includes deicing positions for seven narrow-body aircraft, with the option of one wide-body aircraft deicing spot. The facility also includes a new taxilane, overnight parking spots for aircraft, and facilities to support the deicing operations. A new two-story, 3,000-square-foot deicing control tower building is included with the project, along with infrastructure to capture glycol run-off from deicing activities. The new Runway 21R By Pass Taxiway will provide additional stacking and queuing for aircraft departing Runway 21R.
