Requesting assistance from your airline
If you are not accompanied by or met at the airport by a friend, relative or business associate,
it is important that you contact your airline to inform them of any assistance you may require, e.g.,
a wheelchair (departing and arriving), specific seating requests, specific kinds of foods, etc.
Security measures restrict public access beyond passenger screening to ticketed passengers only.
However, airlines will allow persons with special needs to be accompanied by health care assistants or guardians.
If a friend or family member wants to accompany an elderly or disabled person to or from the aircraft gate,
they need to obtain permission from the airline.
Parking
For your convenience, there are reserved accessible parking spaces for travelers with disabilities in each airport parking structure and surface parking lot. To park in these reserved spaces, official license plates bearing the disabled designation or other official documents issued by a municipality or state of residence must be prominently displayed.
The parking structures generally cannot accommodate vehicles over 7’-0” high. However Van Accessible parking spaces (for vehicles not exceeding 8’-2” in height) are available as follows:
McNamara Terminal – Follow the roadway signage for Long Term Parking and enter the structure from the “International Arrivals” roadway. After entering keep left to stay on Level 2 of the structure, enter through the parking gate and follow the path to the over height parking area. Be aware of barriers identifying adjacent 7’-0” height restrictions. (All other levels of the parking structure are restricted to the 7’-0” height limitation.)
North Terminal / Big Blue Deck – Follow the roadway signage and utilize the Long Term Parking lanes at the entry. Immediately after entering through the gate, vehicles taller than 7’-0” should park on the left hand side in a surface lot (follow the signage to the Van Accessible parking spaces). Vehicles over 7’-0” should not enter the structure itself.
When parking in the surface parking lots or within the Big Blue Deck, a shuttle is available to transport passengers to the appropriate terminal. To arrange for a wheelchair accessible shuttle van, please call (800) 377-1032. Additional parking information can also be obtained via this number.

North Terminal and at the McNamara Terminal Westin Hotel (departures level) and in the
Ground Transportation Center of the parking structure. Please call Metro Shuttle at 734-651-1909 for a wheelchair accessible

Departing
Curbside unloading areas for baggage and passengers are available at each terminal. Skycaps are available
to assist you in getting your luggage to the check-in area. Please make arrangements with your airline 24 hours in advance
for assistance with baggage check-in, ticketing and movement to the gate area.
Arriving
Please make arrangements with your airline 24 hours in advance for assistance in getting to the bag claim
areas. Skycaps are available in the baggage claim areas upon request at airline baggage service offices and ticket counters to help with your luggage.
If a friend, family member or business associate will be driving to the airport to meet you, please understand that they will
not be allowed to wait at the curb front for your arrival. It may be more convenient for your greeter to park in a short term
lot or area of the parking structure and meet you in the baggage claim area.
Cars standing (not actively loading or unloading at the curb fronts) will be ticketed and unattended cars will be
towed at the owner’s expense.
Emergency Services
For medical emergencies, trained emergency medical technicians are available 24 hours per day. In the event
of an emergency dial 911 from any airport phone. Calling 911 from a personal cell phone will connect you with the City of
Romulus.
Restrooms
In addition to 25 wheelchair accessible restroom facilities, there are 16 family restrooms available in
the MacNamara Terminal. There are also 20 wheelchair accessible restrooms and 10 family restrooms in the North Terminal.
TDD/TTY

Service Animal Relief Areas
Service Animal Relief Areas are available at each passenger terminal. The McNamara Terminal location is outside the International Arrivals area (Lower Level), around the corner of the building at the south end of the curb front. At the North Terminal, there are Relief Areas at each end of the Departures Level curb (Upper Level). All locations provide plastic bags and a container for disposal of solid waste.
